Richard Hickey serves as the Chief Creative Officer at Moonbug Entertainment, an award-winning global entertainment company behind some of the biggest kids’ entertainment brands. With over 20 years of experience in film and television, Richard is celebrated as one of the most versatile creatives in the children’s entertainment industry.
At Moonbug, Hickey oversees the creative direction for all core and premium original IPs, including the acclaimed CoComelon, Blippi, Little Angel, Little Baby Bum, Morphle, Oddbods, Mia’s Magic Playground, ARPO and more. He leads the creative process from development through delivery across YouTube and premium broadcasters like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Kids+ and HBO Max.
Under his leadership, Moonbug’s monthly viewership has surged from 400 million to over 9 billion, all while maintaining the company’s core values of compassion, empathy, and resilience.
Hickey oversaw Moonbug’s launch of three premium, longer format original streaming series in 2023 and 2024: CoComelon Lane and Little Baby Bum Music Time for Netflix and Morphle and the Magic Pets for Disney+. CoComelon Lane premiered at #1 on Netflix Kids in the U.S. and U.K. and was the 3rd most-watched series on Netflix globally in its first week on the service.
He has also led the expansion of Moonbug properties into other formats including interactive, audio and feature film development. Richard also played a pivotal role in navigating the acquisition by Candle Media in 2021, positioning Moonbug as the world’s leading digital children’s content company.
Prior to Moonbug, Hickey was responsible for developing kids content both independently and at prestigious studios such as Dreamworks, Sony Pictures Animation and Paramount Pictures.
