A love story that lasts into the ever-after by the team behind Thai blockbuster, Death Whisperer (Tee Yod), The Legend of Nang Nak is based on one of Thailand’s most enduring ghost fables about a couple torn apart by war, family opposition, social constraints and, too soon, by death. When Nak flees her engagement to Luang San Piman to be with her true love Mak, the young lovers find life in his village filled with difficulty, including a vicious mother-in-law and a jealous acquaintance who try to tear them apart. Nak dies in childbirth while Mak is away fighting in a war, but her heartbroken spirit lingers, waiting for Mak’s return. Meanwhile, cruel villagers try to get rid of her ghostly presence, displaying the true horror that lies in the cruelty of human hearts.
